PUBLIC POLICY

Strategies to support Community Health Centers and patients

WPHCA collaborates with state and federal lawmakers, policymakers, and partners to advance legislation, regulations, and initiatives that improve the health of communities. Through this non-partisan work, WPHCA advances policies that improve access to care, expand high-quality, affordable health care coverage, address health care workforce challenges, and identify and respond to social determinants of health such as food and housing insecurity.

STRATEGIES TO SUPPORT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS AND PATIENTS

Elevating Community Voices

WPHCA amplifies the voices of Community Health Centers and the patients they serve to help policymakers understand the lived experience, real life barriers, and policy priorities of our communities. Providing support so that Community Health Center staff and patients can effectively communicate their experiences and priorities with decision-makers is part of WPHCA’s legislative engagement work. Any individual that engages with a Community Health Center, whether as a patient, community partner, Board member, or as a clinical leader is already positioned to become an advocate. WPHCA has the tools and expertise to turn passion into progress!

Policy Analysis

WPHCA digests the implications of new legislation, funding shifts, or other changes in the health care environment to help policymakers understand the lived experience, real life barriers, and policy priorities of our communities. Community Health Centers navigate complex systems. WPHCA also works directly with lawmakers and agencies to craft and influence legislation to improve community health.
