NorthLakes Community Clinic Opens Clinic in Eau Claire

A new option for health care is now open in downtown Eau Claire. NorthLakes Community Clinic added a location with a grand opening for its Eau Claire expansion this morning. The expansion is located at 1002 West Clairemont Ave and started offering health care services in May.

NorthLakes Community Clinic offers medical, dental, behavioral health and recovery services, and will be adding chiropractic care next month.

A representative for NorthLakes said the clinic is the first federally-qualified health center in the Chippewa Valley, meaning it will take care of underserved groups who may be on Medicare, Medicaid or have no insurance at all.

NEW Community Clinic delivers health on wheels

NEW Community Clinic delivers health on wheels

NEW Community Clinic is helping the homeless and people without adequate insurance get access to critical health care services. And they’re bringing the health care to them, with a new mobile unit.

”We find when we look at people who are unable to come to their appointments, it’s usually because of transportation, so by having our mobile clinic we’re able to go out and meet people where they’re at and bring the services to them,” NEW Community Clinic CEO Kim Franzen said.

This pilot program just started. It will go to a few locations once a month, like Wellspring or the Micah Center.

NEW Community Clinic receives grant from the city of Green Bay as part of the Community Development Block Program, a federal program.

How Milwaukee’s Native Community is Fighting a Surge in Opioid Deaths

The Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center hopes to serve as a beacon for those struggling with addiction in Milwaukee. In 2021, Native Americans suffered 56.6 overdose deaths per 100,000 people, the highest among all racial or ethnic groups, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Wisconsin, the Native overdose death rate is even higher at 80.4 per 100,000 people in 2021, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

“Here in Milwaukee, the Native population has the highest overdoses compared to all other populations. This is an epidemic,” said Lyle Ignace, a physician who is the CEO of the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center. “There is a strong spiritual, emotional and mental health element rooted in the daily struggle of our community,” he said. The center incorporates traditional healing methods including powwows, drum circles and sweat lodges into treatment.
