Team Work Series Pre-Work

In preparation for the January Teamwork series, please take some time to view the two videos that we have provided links to give an introduction to trauma and trauma informed care.

Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris, a pediatrician in San Francisco and a pioneer in the treatment of toxic stress, presents on how childhood trauma affects health across a lifetime. Watch her TED Talk here.

Founded in 1850 as an orphanage, SaintA is a Milwaukee organization whose mission has evolved to "advance foster care, education and mental health services for thousands of children, families and adults daily." The Teamwork Series speaker for Wednesday evening is Michael Joranger, who has worked at SaintA for over 30 years. The following video features Oprah Winfrey, a native of Milwaukee, reporting on treating childhood trauma, including an interview with staff from SaintA and their trauma informed work. Watch Oprah’s report here.
