Spring Face-to-Face Meeting

Overall Meeting Objectives:

  • Leverage the collective knowledge of the group to accelerate Health Center work related to improving the quality of Health Center fiscal and operations
  • Strengthen relationships/networks among Health Center staff
  • Gain strategic ideas and tactical skills to use on the job

 

9:00 – 9:45       Welcome, Introductions, State, HRSA & Federal Policy Updates

This is a standing agenda item that supports WPHCA and CHC intelligence sharing about state and federal reimbursement, funding, and the policy environment that have potential implications for CHCs. Topics for sharing often include:

  • Recently released PINs/PALs
  • HRSA announcements and/or intelligence regarding operational site visits
  • Other state and federal regulatory changes and/or initiatives
  • Updated Compliance Manual

 

9:45-11:15        PPS Transition-Updates, Implementation Status Discussion

With May 1, 2018 the implementation date for most Health Centers managing the MMIS system transition, this will be a placeholder to share updates, check-in on implementation issues and discuss what we know about the status of change-in-scope processes.

                           Key Discussion Questions:

  • What is the current status of your Medicaid billing?
  • What has worked?
  • Where have there been challenges?
  • What future training and technical assistance are needed to assure Health Center sustainability?

 

11:15-12:00      Managing Health Center Growth-Sustainably

Several Health Centers have recently undergone or are in the process of significant expansion of sites, service lines, and/or acquiring non-FQHC practices.

              Key Discussion Questions:

  • What strategies have Health Centers used to evaluate expansion/acquisition opportunities?
  • What are critical considerations that Health Center leaders should consider before moving forward with expansion opportunities?
  • What strategies have worked to expand the number of patients served by Wisconsin Health Centers?
  • What are some lessons learned that you can share with your colleagues?

12:45-1:15        Walk & Talk

Spring is upon us in Wisconsin! Why not take the opportunity to connect with a small group of colleagues while taking in some fresh air and getting a few steps in.

 

1:15-1:45          Health Center Finance/Compliance Calendar & Checklist

WPHCA staff have collated a list of key finance/compliance dates that are important to be tracking and planning for on an annual basis.  Come prepared to edit the list and suggest your own additions given your own early lessons learned in your role or tips/tricks you’ve developed throughout years of experience. The list will be added to the Finance section of the CHC Resource Library.

 Key Discussion Questions:

  • What key finance/compliance deadlines are critical to be aware of and manage?
  • What guides/resources/training have been helpful for you as you’ve tackled each of the items on the list?
  • What tips/tricks have you learned over the years, that would be helpful to share with new Health Center Finance and Operations staff?
  • What additional training/technical assistance would be helpful to hone finance & compliance skills & capacity?
