Instruction focuses on how HICS, as a system, is extremely useful; not only does it provide an organizational structure for incident management but it also guides the process for planning, building, and adapting that structure. The principles presented also involve how the HICS apply to all mission areas (Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery) and all hazards. Instruction also includes education and practical application of the revised HICS resources to include: planning, documentation, and incident response/planning guides. Training delivery includes the combination of lecture, best practices, practical application of HICS resources, and a facilitated tabletop exercise inclusive of all participants. In addition, the onsite program will deliver the following learning objectives:

  •  Learn and apply the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) principle concepts, command structure, and Incident Management Team functions to all types of healthcare providers.
  • Learn and apply the HICS resources to incident scenarios, which include: documentation forms, job action sheets, and incident response guides.
  • Participate in two (2) facilitated, scenario driven, tabletop exercises in order to become familiar with the HICS resources and demonstrate your understanding of the operation and application of the HICS and its command structure.
