Sharon Vail, Executive Director, Rimrock Health Alliance
Sharon Vail is the Executive Director of Rimrock Health Alliance in Prineville, OR. The independent nonprofit organization works to strengthen and align health resources in rural Crook County through extensive work in physician recruiting and retention, facilitating collaboration between health providers (such as physicians with chiropractors and dentists) to develop innovative partnerships, and through community health education. Rimrock developed a successful community-based recruiting model and a unique physician retention tool that is used by one of the St. Charles Health System hospitals. The Oregon Primary Care Office contracted with Rimrock to work with clinics in Oregon to retain ARRA physicians.

Chris Kashnig, Lead Senior Medical Staff Services Specialist, Dean Clinic
Christopher Kashnig joined Dean Clinic in Madison, WI as a Physician Recruiter in 2008. He has over 25 years of physician recruitment experience, including ten years with Christie Clinic in Champaign, IL and four years with Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh, WI. In both cases Chris developed the in-house physician recruitment program. Chris has been a regular presenter on budgeting issues for the Recruitment 101 Program of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters. He also participates in the ASPR mentor program. Prior to becoming a physician recruiter, Chris worked as an Administrator with the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and briefly as a stockbroker. A native of Green Bay, Chris has a BA from the University of Notre Dame and both an MS and MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is a Fellow of ASPR and a Certified Medical Staff Recruiter.

Mike Shimmens, Executive Director, 3RNet
Mike Shimmens joined the 3RNet (National Rural Recruitment and Retention Network) as Executive Director on August 1, 2012. In this role he works with a nine member Board of Directors to assist 54 non-profit member organizations in the recruitment and retention of quality health professional in rural and underserved areas of our country. Prior to coming to this position, he worked for 6 years at the Missouri Primary Care Association as Director of Recruitment and Workforce Development and nine years as Director of Medical Staff Development at St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City, MO. As an in-house recruiter, he has extensive knowledge and resources in the areas of provider sourcing, interviewing, compensation and planning. He is a long time member of both the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) and their regional affiliate the Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas (MINK) Physician Recruitment and Retention Network. Through a relationship with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) and their Office of Primary Care and Rural Health, he supervised the Missouri Health Professional Placement Services Program, acted as the organizational member for Missouri with the 3RNet and maintained a candidate matching program called Practice Sights that was accessed via the internet by both candidates and employers. Mike has a Bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University, a Master’s degree from Western Illinois University and he continues to live in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Donna Ecclestone, Assistant Director of Physician Integration, Duke Medicine
Donna Ecclestone, FASPR, is Assistant Director of Physician Integration at Duke Medicine. A national speaker and content expert on physician onboarding, Donna is responsible for streamlining and standardizing the onboarding initiatives across Duke’s faculty group practice. Duke is one of the few academic medical centers with a staff dedicated to onboarding physicians. Duke welcomes 120-150 new physicians a year across 13 departments. Donna started her career at Duke in 1997 as a staff recruiter for the Office of Medical Staff Recruitment. In 2001 she was promoted to Assistant Director, managing a staff of five in-house recruiters. In 2009, she started her present role and launched the centralized onboarding initiatives for Duke’s faculty practice. Donna holds a degree in Business Marketing and Management and has seventeen years of recruitment experience in both the in-house and contingency arenas. She is a Board Member of the Association of Staff Physician Recruiters (ASPR) and has been involved with their benchmarking and fellowship committees. She also helped launch two Chapters of ASPR, Academic In-House Recruiter network (AIR) and Onboarding and Retention Network (OAR), and is currently serving a leadership role in both organizations.
